Traced origins to 1888 when South West Suffolk Echo was established at Haverhill by a London printer and stationer by name of Chevens. Subsequently had several changes in ownership. 1962 acquired by Anglia Echo Newspapers Ltd which was incorporated for the purpose by a group of former Fleet Street journalists. Expanded from a low and struggling level to publish and print a small group of local newspapers and house magazines especially for port businesses, Port of London Authority and Mersey Docks & Harbour Board. Invested heavily in new machinery. Also had printing interests at Halstead. 1976 acquired by East Midland Allied Press Ltd (MEPC)
