Traced origins to late 19th century and the distribution in Britain of phonographic equipment invented and sold in USA by Thomas Edison, 1847-1931. 1892 Edison Bell Phonographic Corp Ltd / Co Ltd was formed in the UK to acquired from Thomas Edison for ten years various patents and to handle phonographic manufacturing rights in Britain. 1897 agreed with James E Hough, 1849-1925, for supply of phonographs through his firm, Edisonia Ltd which manufactured them at Peckham. 1898 Edisonia Ltd merged with Edison Bell to form Edison Bell Consolidated Phonographic Co Ltd. 1898 published first catalogue of cylinders; by end of 1904 had issued 3,000 cylinders. 1908 issued first disc. 1909 James Hough established J E Hough Ltd which owned Edisonia Ltd and the Consolidated Co. 1926 J E Hough Ltd was reconstructed as Edison Bell Co Ltd, a public company. 1928 formed Edison Bell International Ltd to handle overseas business. Soon another subsidiary, Edibel Sound Film Apparatus Ltd formed. By early 1930s in financial difficulties and in receivership. Out of business by early 1930s
