Traced origins to Fred Hawkes, d1943, who from 1909 was connected with Central Machinery Co, agents for Hornsby engines, and from 1915 with Technic Shoe Co, suppliers of shoe making machinery. The latter was renamed in c1919 F & W V Hawkes and began manufacturing shoe making machinery. From 1936 traded as Fred Hawkes (NV Engineers) Ltd and in 1946 a connected business, Fred Hawkes (Refrigeration) Ltd, was established to act as agents for refrigeration equipment manufacturers. 1965 FHNVE and FHR merged with Cox & Wright Ltd of Wellingborough who were acquired in 1967 by Evode
