Established 1914 to manufacture telephones as a subsidiary of New System PTC Ltd, a company which imported telephone equipment from Germany and rented it to UK businesses for internal use. New System traced its origins to The Private Telephone Co Ltd, established by 1902. Converted to a public company, Telephone Manufacturing Co (1920) Ltd in 1920 and absorbed all interests of New System. Established major factory at Dulwich. 1929 reorganised into Telephone Manufacturing Co 1929 Ltd and Telephone Rentals Ltd. Thereafter both businesses diversified, the manufacturing business into areas such as radios, intercom systems, etc. Increasingly developing speciality products. 1960s acquired by Pye Group to become Pye TMC Ltd which was subsequently acquired by Philips of the Netherlands
