Notes:

Date to 16th century and expanded significantly from late 17th century. Early 18th century worked by London Lead Co and by Friendly Mining Society under lease from the Duke of Buccleuth & Queensberry. By mid century, with the nearby Leadhills Lead Mines, producing 80% of Scotland's lead output. Subsequently worked by a succession of owners including Ronald Crauford & Co for 87 years and subsequently by Duke of Buccleuth, and, from 1905, by Wanlockhead Lead Mining Co Ltd. Closed 1920s although later briefly revived
